ABOUT THE PROJECT

Transcending Boundaries is a series of 13 multimedia collages that combine woodcut and linocut printmaking techniques with found maps. The collages illustrate complex and shared themes inherent in human and bird migration, emphasizing our interconnectedness with the natural world. In both  journeys, countless state and nation border lines are crossed in search of a more livable environment and bountiful resources. While birds can transcend human made boundaries through flight, borders become a barrier and site of conflict for humans. Climate change knows no boundaries, and its effects must be approached with a multispecies lens in order to create a just and resilient world. The work is a call for humans to mitigate anthropogenic impacts of climate.
